Internationalization Assistance!

Hi,
If you would like Tally Up to be localized for your language, please translate the following strings and post below! This is one problem that I never really thought I'd have to tackle, but almost 2/5ths of downloads are coming from outside the US!

That's a cool problem in my book!

Actions
Active Tallies
Name
Cost
Split By
Paid By
Expense Totals
Specify People
Create New Expense
Current Expenses
No Expenses
Tally Summary
Send Tally
Email Tally Summary
Add Person to Tally
People in Tally
No People Specified
Quick Add
Name or Initials
From Contacts
Nobody
Required
Must Enter Cost

The following I want to put some context around since a direct translation may not work:

<Name> owes <Amount>
<Name> is owed <Amount>
<Amount> for <Expense Name>
<Name> is out

Thanks for your help.

Not easy at all to translate in short terms that fit in your current GUI.

Actions --> Actions
Active Tallies --> Comptes en cours
Name --> Nom
Cost --> Coût
Split By --> Partagé par
Paid By --> Payé par
Expense Totals --> Bilan de la dépense
Specify People --> Ajouter des participants (if too long --> Participants) (and you could just display the number, instead of "[number] people")
Create New Expense --> Créer une nouvelle dépense
Current Expenses --> Dépenses
No Expenses --> Pas de dépense
Tally Summary --> Bilan du compte
Send Tally --> Envoyer
Email Tally Summary --> Email du bilan
Add Person to Tally --> Ajouter un participant au compte (or just: Ajouter un participant)
People in Tally --> Participants
No People Specified --> Aucun participant
Quick Add --> Ajout rapide
Name or Initials --> Nom ou initiales
From Contacts --> Depuis les contacts
Nobody --> Personne
Required --> Requis
Must Enter Cost --> Requis

[Name] owes [Amount] --> [Name] doit [Amount]
[Name] is owed [Amount] --> [Name] doit recevoir [Amount]
[Amount] for [Expense Name] --> [Amount] pour [Expense Name]
[Name] is out --> ??? (I didn't find the string in the app an need the context to translate it)

We could maybe finish this through private mails, it woul be easier. I also expect some new terms for you next version...

I installed the 1.2 version.

There are some mistakes in the french translation (some words put together that definitely don't sound french, or are even truly wrong).

Here are my correction suggestions:

* Nouveau dépense -> Nouvelle dépense
* Aucuns Gens Configurés -> Pas de participant
* [number] les gens dans le Compte -> [number] (just nothing more)
* Ajouter un participant au -> ajouter un participant
* Déchiré par -> Participants (in the people creation page)
* [number] les gens -> [number] (just nothing more)
* Déchiré par [number] les gens -> Payé pour [number] participants ("Split by" field in an expense creation page). Even better: diplay the names of the people as you do in the "paid by" field.
* In the generated email, the mail subject (=the 1st sentence of the mail). Here is what I get: "Le Compte En Haut le Résumé pour [tally name]". You should remove "En haut" which has no meaning and write it like this: "Bilan du compte [tally name]"

Strangely enough, there are German words in the french locale, for the new 1.2 feature :-) :
* Sogar Spalt -> Mêmes montants
* Angeben -> Modifier
* Betrag -> Montant

Other glitches:

* Multiple crashes when trying to delete a tally which has not been viewed before.

* When creating an expense
- type the expense name
- type the expense amount
-tap the "Split by" field to select people
--> All amounts display 0. You must unselect and reselect one people for the amount values to be updated

I'll work on getting the french update done if I can update it before they fix 1.3

The crash that you see I can't reproduce. I think it may have something with my compatibility with the 1.2 data set. Does the crash happen if you create a new tally then delete it on a fresh restart?

The last one is fixed with the current 1.3

German

Hi Brian,
I really like your program, therefore I would like to comment, that it would be great, if we could add different currenties and e.g. enter expenses in US-Dollar and EURO...
If we travel to the US, we have to pay the flight and probably car in EURO and the rest of the expenses in US-Dollar, so having currencies would be awful! Also being able to enter expenses with mathematical formulas (like "5.23*3") would be very helpful.

Additionally, I would like to give you the German translations:

Actions => Aktionen
Active Tallies => Aktive Tallies
Name => Name
Cost => Kosten
Split By => Verteilen auf
Paid By => Bezahlt von
Expense Totals => Gesamtausgaben
Specify People => Personen festlegen
Create New Expense => Neue Ausgaben erstellen
Current Expenses => aktuelle Ausgaben
No Expenses => keine Ausgaben
Tally Summary => Tally Auswertung
Send Tally => Tally senden
Email Tally Summary => Tally Auswertung per eMail senden
Add Person to Tally => Person zu Tally hinzufügen
People in Tally => Personen in Tally
No People Specified => keine Personen konfiguriert
Quick Add => schnell hinzufügen
Name or Initials => Name oder Inititalen
From Contacts => Aus Kontakte
Nobody => Niemand
Required => Erforderlich
Must Enter Cost => Kosten eingeben

The following I want to put some context around since a direct translation may not work:

[Name] owes [Amount] => schuldet
[Name] is owed [Amount] => bekommt
[Amount] for [Expense Name] => für (or: "fuer", as the Umlaut-U might be a problem)
[Name] is out => ist raus (but that sounds a bit funny, "hat keine Schulden" might be better)
